Bodyshop, could be a harsh word, but IT outsourcing is becoming more prevelant within the enterprize level of most business sectors in South Africa.
It not only shows great potential in the remaining sectors that have yet to join the outsourcing train, but IT outsourcing has many facets of advantages that make it so tempting to BDMs (Business Decision Makers).
One of the key plus points is that there is one central point of responsibility and accountabilty. Finger pointers only aim at one direction and it’s the IT SP that prepares to take the flack. Some IT bodyshops relish the fact that they are becoming more important in the business, albeit in a negative angle, this still gives them more opportunity in shining in the Customer’s eyes. Obviously not all customers will give you the second chance very easily, but most have no choice because, in their eyes, if you mucked it up, then it’s your responsibility to un-muck it up.
The inception of Bodyshops in SA was always active since even before my time, however company’s want one point of contact because this helps them manage their department more easily and also it gives performance advantages to all stakeholders and that I refer to is “the entire organisation”.
Compare an internal IT Department with an outsourced IT entity.
BIG DIFFERENCE.
Performance driven IT managers will demand much more from the Outsourcing company. The internal IT dept would be less performance driven because of the sense of urgency is eliminated from the equation. For eg, when you take a loan for a business initiative or a new business plan, the sense of urgency to repay the loan is enormous, therefore this creates an excelerated performance drive from the individual or organisation, however when the company has no debt and no big liabilities, then the drive to perform is not has high.Not the best of examples, but I hope you understand my point of why outsourcing, not only IT, makes a difference in the growth of an organisation.
